New Year Resolutions For 2012 (and a preview into the future of Murphology 101)
As none of you may have noticed, this is my first blog in two days short of a year. This is a direct result of my own laziness and neglect. As the year 2012 approaches, I sit in anticipation. While many long dead Mayans believed that this will indeed be the last year of our lives and though I am not among those that believe that ridiculous Mayan prophecy, I intend to live as though this will be the final months of our existence.
Of course, I say that now...
That's what I've always said before every year for the last decade. Some kind of solemn vow to kick all my bad habits, exercise more and eat healthy. However, the result has always been the opposite, my idealistic goal to improve myself has been consistently self-sabotaged year after year. Instead of absolving all my bad habits, I end up with even more bad habits. One year it was excessive procrastination, another year it was heavy drinking, a couple years back I picked up smoking. I've spent every year of my 20s thus far collecting bad habits as if they were baseball cards. Now is the time to throw the collection away and trade it in for a collection of good habits. Habitual behaviors that I can actually be proud of. Self-improvement is the name of the objective here. And while I hate to be one of those mock-important pricks who publish all their hopes and dreams and goals online for all their friends to see so they can delude themselves into actually believing that what they've written is deep and insightful and a thoughtful commentary on our humanity, that is exactly what I've decided to become-- but instead I shall be an amusing, mock-important prick, which will help me come off a bit less douchey and more assholish. Because I would rather be an asshole than a douchebag. So one of my main goals is to post on this blog a hell of a lot more during the upcoming year. Question is, what the hell should I write about that won't bore the bejesus out of my many readers? And by "many" readers, I mean "nonexistent" readers. Because in all honesty I only want to write on this forum more because I believe that it will entertain me. I write here for purely selfish reasons and I plan to pontificate often about my selfish points of view. So that I can look back on my many future entries and chuckle to myself in pride that I have created an online legacy that is special to no one except I. Who is my audience? Nick Murphy is my audience. At least for now anyway. Of course, anyone is allowed to spectate on my online ramblings and perhaps you might visit from time to time to check out what kind of buffoonery I've been up to among this vast infinite nothing we've come to know as the internet. The possibilities are endless, the adventure is approaching and 2012 will be a benchmark for many of our lives. So strap on your metaphorical scuba suit because we're going deep!
